About Me
Shirin Lowell
Background
I found my way into birth work in 2016 when my oldest sister was pregnant with her first baby-- the first baby among my sisters. I felt called to jump right in and move with my sister through her pregnancy journey-helping with setting up the nursery, researching labor & breastfeeding techniques, going to prenatal appointments, and having the privilege of being in the room with her through her long marathon of an unmedicated labor. Giving her unwavering support and taking a hands on approach through her pregnancy journey and beyond felt instinctive and natural for me. I knew this would be the first birthing room experiences of many for me.
Philosophy
My approach to pregnancy/birth, breastfeeding/infant feeding, and postpartum is family centered and practical. It is very rewarding to see new parents, armed with a depth of resources and a deeper understanding of ALL their options, making educated, thoughtful choices that fit their baby and family’s priorities and values. My goal in working together is to figure out what is best (and doable) for the individual family, which brings them the confidence and comfort of having authority over their birth process.
Aside from my birth work, I am also passionate about incorporating a yoga practice within prenatal and through postpartum care for my clients. Building in a gentle, evolving, self care routine where breath work and mindful movement help provide a very useful foundation for mental health, well-being, and awareness of the body/mind/spirit that will serve you for a lifetime.
When I am not working, you can find me practicing yoga at Revolution Yoga in Rockville Centre, reading on my hammock or playing with my EIGHT little nieces, nephews, and cousins!
